The Risk Adjustment Coding program is designed to prepare the student on how to read a medical chart and assign the correct diagnosis (ICD-10-CM) codes for a wide variety of clinical cases and services for risk adjustment models (e.g., HCC, CDPS, and HHS Risk Adjustment). Upon successful completion of the program, students should have the necessary skills and knowledge to accurately collect all ICD-10 diagnosis codes from the patient chart and use these illnesses (along with their comorbidities and complications) to determine the ICD codes, which drive risk.Students should understand risk adjustment coding compliance rules and all the components of a medical record.Graduates of this program may find entry-level positions as outpatient coders in billing offices, ambulatory care centers and physician practices or as third-party administrators, consultant and may work from home.
